Best Gift for Seniors: an iPod Shuffle
It was a lovely surprise to me to see how much the Alzheimer’s residents at Mom’s facility LOVED listening to music.
It’s shouldn’t have been, since they always enjoy the visiting bands and music videos. You’ll catch some tapping their feet, even if unable to speak much. Then you will have a bunch that sing along.
When our facility began getting basic iPods for each of them, it was such a blessing. Filled with songs of their generation (apparently songs they listened to as late teens/young adults are the favorites), the music has the ability to calm them, help them feel less agitated, and definitely make them smile.
Whether your loved one is is a facility or at home, it’s a great suggestion for something to keep them content and occupied for a good length of time.
When you think of those affected by sundowners, would that be helpful?
As you can read in the article below published on Jaquo Magazine, music is one of the last memories to go. As a result, when it seems little else can reach them, music just might.
