Testing for Alzheimer’s
Your personal physician will be able to provide tests that will show if Alzheimer’s or dementia is affecting your or a loved one. Some tests are quite accurate. Some results you will already guess.
These are not designed for self testing. You should ask your doctor for a qualified test, but these are some simple examples that were asked of each of my parents.
Where do they live
What state do they live in
What month is it
Who is the president
Count backwards from 100 by a certain number
Another test that really surprised me was the clock test. If given a blank clock or one with some numbers missing, see how they complete it.
Then there are obvious physical things, such as their ability dressing, showering, the routine they have had.
Again a doctor should be consulted for the proper tests and judgments. He will know what treatments are available too that might help slow the progression of the disease.
